What is Curtain Wall?
Have you ever looked up at a skyscraper or other commercial building and noticed it was blanketed in glass? That’s a curtain wall.
Curtain Wall Clips, sometimes referred to as Wind Load or Dead Load Clips, are used during commercial building construction to connect curtain wall to masonry anchors or embedded anchor channel, so glaziers can install windows.
A curtain wall is a non-structural building element that covers the exterior of a building. Curtain walls protect building interiors building from outside elements. Curtain walls can be made of lightweight materials because they carry no structural load beyond their own dead load weight – which is what the clips used to install curtain wall are sometimes referred to as dead load clips. Curtain walls also help to transfer lateral wind loads to the main building structure, through connections at floors or columns of the building, hence these clips are also referred to as wind load clips.
What Is A Curtain Wall System?
Often designed as a complete Curtain Wall System that integrates an aluminum frame, curtain wall clips, wall panel, and weatherproofing materials. Frames which used to be manufactured out of steel are now made of extruded aluminum because it is much lighter weight and also has better resistance to the elements. Since glass is typically used for infill, and condensation or moisture is often present, aluminum makes a lot of sense. A glass and aluminum curtain wall system can reduce construction costs, provide an architecturally and aesthetically appealing look, while also allowing more natural light into buildings.
